The most important thing to remember when preaching is to preach the word of God, just as Paul did. Paul persecuted early Christians for preaching that Christ is the Son of God. However, Paul himself began preaching this message immediately after his conversion. Paul’s example shows the importance of preaching the word, even when it is difficult.
There are three types of people one might preach to:
* The natural man, who is not saved.
* The carnal person, who is saved but walks after the flesh.
* The spiritual person, who walks in the Spirit.
Pastor Tim emphasizes that one should not preach with enticing words of man’s wisdom. He warns that people will follow those who preach enticing words, even if those words are not true. He gives the examples of Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Charles Manson, all of whom were followed by many people despite their false teachings. Pastor contrasts these false teachers with John Huss, who was burned at the stake for preaching the word of God.
Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2 make it clear that our faith should not stand in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God. Preaching should be done in demonstration of the Spirit. Our study of this important topic begins in 2 Timothy 4.
